The Kingdom of Israel was divided between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Rehoboam’s downfall was listening to immature advisors. It’s funny that even thousands of years ago, people were still arguing about taxes. God kept His promise to David by continuing to have one of David’s descendants as king, even if it was of a reduced kingdom.
It’s a good idea to seek advice from others when making an important decision, but our advisors should be people capable of giving good advice rather than those who will tell us what we want to hear. Seeking God’s advice would have been even better!
