Every Word, a Reader's 90-Day Guide to the BibleSample

- God always has a faithful remnant. Ruth is set in the chaotic time of the judges. Through this love story, a grieving widow Naomi, her foreign daughter-in-law Ruth, and faithful Boaz become key figures in God’s redemptive history (Matthew 1:5–6).
- As Ruth’s kinsman-redeemer, Boaz foreshadows Jesus as our Redeemer who makes us part of His family.
- Samuel is the final judge and also serves as a priest and prophet. The people ask Samuel for a king to be “like all the nations” (1 Samuel 8:5). Their motive is unnerving; remember, they were to be set apart from the nations.
- God gives disheartening commentary on their request: “They have rejected me from being king over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Recall all the ways God has remained faithful to this faithless people. Feel the sadness of them rejecting God as their King and their calling as a kingdom of priests to bless other nations. Will God continue His faithfulness toward them?
