[New Life New Way] Anger

DAY 1 OF 5

Anger

Contrary to what many of us believe, anger is not a sign of strength. It does not make us look strong or put together. Instead, it is a sign of weakness and immaturity. When we work on our ability to control our anger, we show strength and growth. It says in the Bible: “A man who does not control his temper is like a city whose wall is broken down” (Proverbs 25:28 HCSB). What does it mean? It means that uncontrolled anger makes us weak. If we cannot control our anger, whatever attack the enemy throws at us, he will succeed.

Anger gives the enemy an opportunity to expand small things into big things. Small problems or situations will become huge problems and hard-to-handle situations because anger got in the way. Anger will make us focus on unimportant earthly things, instead of on heavenly important things. We will start looking at everything that is making us mad, everything that is wrong, and whatever it is that we are lacking, instead of focusing on how blessed we are.

When we give in to anger, we start focusing on ourselves, our own desires, our own comfort, and our own happiness. Anger is selfish. Instead, we should be focusing on someone else’s problems, needs, and bad situations. We should shift the focus of our anger and start doing something good with it.

The Bible says human anger can be sinful. We can get mad or angry, but we must not nurture that anger. When we cannot get past what makes us angry, and we stay in that state for a while, it starts ruining our thoughts, it changes our mood, it turns a good day into a bad day, and it can even start to ruin our relationships. We must learn to control our anger, to give it to God, and we must learn to do something to change what is making us angry.

Thought Of The Day: Do not let anger control your life and your emotions. Pray, instead, and ask God for wisdom to control the situation that is making you angry.
