GO2020 | ENGAGE: March Week 3 - CARESample

March 19—Our Enemies
Read
Luke 6:27-36; Romans 12:20-21
Reflect
Love my enemies? You’ve got to be kidding! Yet this is the very thing our Lord commands us to do: “…Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you” (Luke 6:27-28 ESV).
It hard to life your life without having an enemy, someone who for one reason or nothing, don’t like you or seeks your harm. It’s not natural to love a person who out for us. Maybe that’s why Jesus commanded us to love and care for our enemies, because he knew it is not easy to do. Being good to our enemies is our weapon as Christians to overcome evil. Jesus models this for us as he prayed on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34 ESV).
Engage
Read today’s Scripture passages. Say or write them out in your own words, considering the following questions:
· What do they say about God?
· What do they say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply these Scriptures to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing these truths?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, James 1:27. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.

About this Plan

Human need comes in many different forms—from a stranger asking for directions to a loved one in desperate need of healing. Our care for them can be physical, but often it is care for the soul, such as being present with a friend experiencing heartbreak. A hurting world calls for people who care. In Scripture we discover various folks who need the care of the followers of Jesus.
