Keep Your Eyes On Jesus Not The Storm
There is a second time that the disciples had a fearful encounter while at sea. This time though, Jesus was not initially in the boat. He had sent the disciples ahead without Him. They were struggling to cross the lake and Jesus walked out on the water towards them. They thought He was a ghost and screamed in terror. Jane Cook expands on this idea of trusting God in the face of the unknown.Listen to Jane |
Jane mentioned the importance of trust as a way to overcome fear. We see this with Jesus and the disciples. Jesus spoke to the disciples after their initial shock with comforting words. "I am here", He said, "Don't be afraid." Peter then took this to a whole new level. He said, "If it is you Lord, let me walk on water." And he did! But then fear started to return when Peter took his eyes off Jesus and instead focused on the waves. This provides a clear connection to show how faith and a focus on Jesus is the way to overcome fear. Once Jesus made this point and climbed into the boat, the wind and waves then stopped.
