The Whole Story: A Life in God's Kingdom, Part FourSample
Family Devotional:
In the Gospel accounts, there is not a lot of information about Jesus before his baptism. One of the few events written in the Gospel of Luke regarding Jesus’ childhood takes place in the temple in Jerusalem. While in the temple, Joseph and Mary, with Jesus in hand, are approached by a man named Simeon. What happens next is fascinating – he sings them a song! This song includes a compelling message: Jesus would be an incredible gift to some, but also become the downfall of many as they reject him. This prophecy indeed found its fruition in the life and ministry of Jesus.
Daily Demonstration:
The acceptance and rejection of Christ is a theme that continues to reveal itself throughout the New Testament writings. These acts of allegiance – or non-allegiance – are at the core of the Gospel message. As we learn from Luke 2, however, it was always going to be that way. There were going to be those who are loyal and those who were not. What is critical to note, though, is that there is no neutral ground. What does loyalty to Christ mean to you? What does disloyalty look like? How could your loyalty be demonstrated? Do you consider yourself allegiant to the kingdom of God? Ask God to reveal the practicality of allegiance to you and act accordingly.
