Humility: It's Not What You ThinkSample

Humility: It's Not What You Think

DAY 7 OF 7

“He crowns the humble with victory.” — Psalm 149:4

Congratulations, friend! Humility isn’t an easy thing to learn, but you stuck with me for a whole week. I pray that you’ve enjoyed our time together and that you’ve felt challenged to strive to be better.

Feel free to come back to this devotional again and again—humility is something that’s never perfected. It goes against not just what society tells us, but also our own human nature, so it’s a daily battle.

Choosing to live a life of humility isn’t easy, but the Bible tells us the benefits are far-reaching.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” — Proverbs 11:2

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” — Luke 14:11

“For the Lord takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with victory.” — Psalm 149:4

I don’t know about you guys, but there’s something that makes me emotional about the idea of living a life of humility and getting to heaven and receiving a crown of victory from God. The hymn The Old Rugged Cross paints this picture so beautifully: “I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it someday for a crown.” I can’t wait for that moment.

We get a million little opportunities every day to choose humility. And remember that being humble doesn’t make you weak, quiet or any less worthy. Humility makes you a bolder, wiser and more attractive person! It’s really the only way to break down walls and reach a deeper level of realness in your relationships.

If you want to continue this journey with me, I’d love for you to check out my Contentment Journal. The Contentment Journal is filled with 90 days of guided prompts like these you’ve done this week. It will help you focus on humility, gratitude and contentment. It will take you from feeling distracted and disorganized to focusing on what matters most.
