Mornings With Jesus 2016: 7-Day DevotionalSample

Early morning is my favorite time of day. I rise between five thirty and six o’clock, pour myself a cup of coffee, and snuggle into my love seat for quiet time with Jesus.
Several years ago I began the discipline of reading through the Bible in a year using the New Living Translation edition written expressly for this purpose. Each day, Old Testament and New Testament passages merge with Psalms and Proverbs to challenge and encourage me. And each day, the assigned Scriptures satisfy a need. When I need wisdom for making big decisions, Jesus promises to guide me on the best pathway. When I worry about my kids’ future, Jesus reminds me that He’s their shepherd and takes responsibility for their well-being.
When I struggle with my attitude toward someone who hurt me, Jesus convicts me to forgive so my relationship with Him and others can thrive.
Time spent with Jesus, reading His words, sets the tone for my entire day. It’s my lifeline, and I guard it emphatically. That’s not to say I never miss a day or two. A demanding travel schedule challenges my efforts to remain consistent, but I do my best because it’s important to me.
I pray that the same is true for you. May your love for Jesus and your passion for His words grow deeper and stronger than you ever dreamed possible, and may your times with Jesus bring sheer delight. —Grace Fox
