Mornings With Jesus 2016: 14-Day Reading PlanSample
When I was a teenager, I developed an eating disorder. It didn’t threaten my life. But instead of food staying in its proper place in my life it became a psychological force, something I relied on for a sense of control as well as a stress release. As years passed, it became more and more of a bondage.
I looked to Jesus for help overcoming this problem. I prayed, journaled, tried all kinds of healthy eating plans, diets, medicine, and even hypnotism. Although I had periods of success, nothing worked long-term. At age forty, after having four kids, I was worried about developing health problems. I did a lot of research, consulted several doctor friends, and decided to have gastric bypass surgery. After transforming my eating habits and exercising regularly, my life truly changed and I am healthy today. Finally, I got a victory over something that had been the bane of my existence for twenty-five years!
Sometimes we can’t understand why we aren’t delivered from a difficult situation when we feel we are doing everything we can. It’s easy to become discouraged and think God has abandoned us or isn’t answering our prayers. But I believe Jesus was with me the whole time. He was working in my life, and in His time, He brought me through to victory. Although we don’t all walk the same path, have the same hang-ups, or need the same solutions, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is with us. He is working in us all of the time. And He will bring us through to victory. We can count on Him! —Gwen Ford Faulkenberry
