Love God Greatly - Names of God Part 1: Through Thanksgiving & ChristmasSample

God shares His promise of help, strength, protection, and deliverance with the nation of Israel. Although Israel was being disciplined for their sins against God, having been placed under judgment and exiled, they were still considered His chosen people. God still loved Israel. He promised to protect and care for His people while eventually giving them victory over their enemies.
Those who love the Lord have the assurance that they are never alone. In our messy circumstances, the Lord goes before us and makes our path straight. In our chaotic circumstances, the Lord stands beneath us and holds us steady, placing us on His firm foundation. In fearful circumstances, the Lord surrounds and protects us, delivering us from trouble.
In what circumstance might you be failing to see God’s mighty righteous hand in your life? Are you underestimating your ability and opportunity to glorify God right where you are? Are you allowing fear, insecurity, or procrastination to prevent you from responding to God’s mission? What enemy are you making larger than God’s power, His majesty, and His love for you?
Father God, I thank You for hiding me in the shadow of Your wings; for protecting me from danger. At times these enemy attacks of fear and doubt overwhelm me, Lord. Quiet those thoughts and remind me, Lord, of Who You are and Whose I am. Reveal Your presence to me when my soul is drowning with thoughts of discouragement and the temptation to lose hope. Remind me that You surround me, that You are there to carry me, and that You will deliver me through whatever I am facing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

When it comes to the names of God it is important to recognize that we do not name God. He names himself. This is important because it shows that there is something specific he wants to reveal about himself in his names. He transcends time and space. He is exalted above all things and is incomprehensible. And yet he has condescended to make himself known to us in ways that we can understand. He has given himself names to help us see his character.
