Psalm 55 was written when David was being betrayed by Absalom, and the specific person he addresses is Ahithophel. He was in great distress as he wrote this and prays for God to shine unfavorably on his enemies. The other Psalms in this section were written at a time of great peril for David, but instead of sinning or turning away from God, he sang praises to Him and put his trust in God’s faithfulness.
