FREEDOM FROM DARKNESS
Reading my Bible this morning, I was struck by Jesus' words, "... this is your hour when darkness reigns."
Judas had betrayed Jesus, signaling to the chief priests and their cohorts to take Jesus into custody—leading to His crucifixion.
Was the Lord talking too of this darkness? Consider recent unsettling headlines: 14 Dead in San Bernardino Attack. Thousands Flee ISIS—An Unprecedented Refugee Crisis. US Supreme Court Upholds LGBT Rights.
What a battered and confused world. In total darkness!
Millions everywhere snort at God's "indifference" to all these tragedies. Many regard Christmas as just one big party—nothing more. That's why others prefer to greet you with, "Happy Holidays!"
But Christmas is all about heaven's Glory descending into this darkness.
"... the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned."
The angels visit shepherds working overtime. They are terrified but an angel tells them, "DO NOT BE AFRAID, I bring you GOOD NEWS of GREAT JOY that will be for ALL THE PEOPLE!” (Emphasis and exclamation points are mine.)
But why is it that more than two thousand years hence, the world seems darker than ever, with lawlessness abounding? What good news? Where's the joy? Did we miss something here?
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
God's love is for everyone. But "believe" must be highlighted here. Ah, so those who believe in Jesus will be preserved—even enjoy everlasting life?
Here's more: "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved..."
You want a refuge from all your fears—for your joy to abound? Jesus offers life and its fullness!
A life pregnant with fear, anxiety and strife is not life at all. This is His plan: Governments and peoples bowing down to Him will have Jesus as their Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Take Jesus and enjoy the real Christmas deal.
Prayer: Jesus, be my Savior and Lord. Forgive my sins. Change my heart. Be my Prince of Peace, Healer, Provider, Protector. I take shelter in the shadow of your wings. In Your name I pray.
About this Plan
