Made for MoreSample

Waiting is something we like to think we’re not made to do.
It seems we are made to want, get what we want and repeat. That would be easy, wouldn’t it?
We prefer our wants to be supplied by pure demand. And, in many ways, we have created a world that caters to that desire.
Waiting isn’t something we like to consider as a part of the equation in our relationship with God; we don’t want to think of it as a time when God is at work within us. It’s not the most exciting part of our spiritual walk and certainly not one we post about on Instagram. But waiting may be the real meat of learning to follow Christ in full obedience and devotion.
Learning how to wait is a significantly transformative part of life. During these seasons, it often feels like our lives are brought to an abrupt halt or there is something greater out there that God is keeping for us. And rather than responding in obedience, patience, and trust, our immediate reaction is often doubt, confusion, and sometimes rebellion. When God’s way doesn’t make sense to us, and our way makes perfect sense, we are often resistant to wait.
Some things we wait for naturally. We wait to drive a car, attend college, graduate from college and then figure out what we’re going to do after college.
There are many things we wait for impatiently. Sometimes, following God may require seasons where we feel like we’re waiting more than we are moving forward. But until we can learn how to wait, it is difficult to grow closer to God. As Psalms 103:5-8 reads, our whole being must learn to wait.
When is the last time your heart, mind, soul, and entire being waited upon the Lord patiently? When did you last see a period of waiting as a time to move closer to God, allowing his presence to become more palpable throughout your day, and his voice, word, and wisdom ring more clearly than your thoughts?
This is why we wait: to more deeply experience the immense wisdom, love, and power of God.
So rather than resist the waiting, learn to welcome it. It is in the waiting that our hearts can be opened to invite the greatness and vastness of God's presence. It is in the waiting that we are changed.
