Eat This BookSample

Read: Habakkuk 3:17-19
Process: Much like you and I have conversations with close friends regarding our daily lives and experiences, the first two chapters in the book of Habakkuk consist of a dialogue between Habakkuk and God Himself. Habakkuk is complaining to God about his current situation and the circumstances he is experiencing on earth. There is chaos, turmoil, division, and violence. Sound familiar? The key is to notice Habakkuk’s reaction in the final verses of the book.
Act: Chances are, what we have experienced in our lives is similar to Habakkuk. As we open social media, watch TV, and even stroll our neighborhoods, we too see this turmoil, division, and violence as well. If we are reading the Word of God on a personal level, the context of the words spoken by Habakkuk in Chapter 3 have even more meaning. It would have been somewhat easy for Habakkuk to rejoice if his situation were more positive. When we consider the context, we see that though he started with a complaint, he ended with a commitment to trust God anyway. Are we willing to take the extra time to understand the context to fully understand the content?
Pray: Father, teach me how to slow down and understand your word for all that it is. Guide me through this chaotic life and help me EAT THIS BOOK so I may understand that You are trustworthy and merciful at all times.
