Bringing Godly Character to the Workplace

Not only do you have access to the signs of the Kingdom, you get to exemplify God’s character through your behaviour and responses to others.

Galatians 5:15, ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” 

How might you express the Fruit of the Spirit in your workplace? How do you demonstrate faithfulness in the office, love in the classroom, self- control at home with family? 

How are you at loving your neighbour at work? The boss who is hard to please, that difficult customer or colleague, the member of your team who challenges you daily? Do they experience Godly character in the way you handle your relationship with them? Take every opportunity to change your behaviour to one that outwardly reflects the character of God and start influencing society from a Kingdom perspective. 

How you live, work, make decisions and serve the interests of those around you needs to flow from your first allegiance; from God himself. In doing so, you follow the example of Jesus who took on ‘the very nature of a servant’. 

Servant leaders value the development of people around them; they build their communities, act authentically and share power. Secure in their identity and emotionally mature, they do not hold followers back. They serve and allow others to run past as they cheer them on, celebrating their successes. In God’s Kingdom everyone is treated with honour, dignity, and respect, and that is what we desire to create ‘on earth as it is in heaven’. 

Philippians 2:6-8, ‘Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”
