Busyness is a DistractionSample

Busyness is a Distraction

DAY 4 OF 4

What Needs to Change?

Over the past few days, we asked questions about our busyness, to see if it was distracting us or bringing us closer to what matters most.

Now, you’re probably wondering: what needs to change? If you found that your busyness is calling you away from what matters most to you, what needs to be done?

We learned that busyness is more about an orientation of the heart. It doesn’t reflect how valued or important we are; it reveals where our affections are.

This still doesn’t tell what we should do with the items filling up our schedule. Should we drop them?

Here’s some wisdom from 1 Corinthians 7:20. When people in Corinth were wondering what to do now that they were believers, Paul gave them this advice: “Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called.”

In other words, don’t upend your schedule. Instead, practice wisdom in how you choose what belongs on your schedule going forward.

Now that you know you are not valued for how much you do or by doing what is expected of you, you have the freedom to choose where you want your time to be spent. Continue fulfilling responsibilities but consider the cost of your busyness. And as you consider it, avoid the busyness that is a distraction from what matters, but instead, orient your heart toward what matters.

Jesus tells us that as we seek the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, the things we busy ourselves trying to attain will be given to us (Matthew 6:33). Busyness reflects more about where our heart is oriented and where our trust lies. Lets point it back in the direction that matters.

Day 3

About this Plan

Busyness is a Distraction

As much as we hate to admit it, we love to be busy. But is our busyness drawing us closer to what matters most? Or is it just a distraction from God’s calling for our lives? In this 4-day Bible Plan, we’ll explore questions to ask yourself about busyness, so you can reclaim what matters most in your life.
