The Ultimate Balm for Your Weary Heart

DAY 2 OF 5

What the Heart Knows

My daughter, stand up. I have made you with strength. I have made you with a spirit of fierceness. You are not weak and never were. You are not the one I forgot or turned my back on. You are not the one I don’t love. You are not the one I don’t want. I adore you. I never wished evil for you. I am your Father who gives to his children. What I have is yours. But there is darkness in this world. And a battle wages against it, in my Son’s name. Will you believe in me even though you don’t have all the answers: the reasons why this or that happened?

I hate what happened to you. My fury knows no limit. I shall become a consuming fire for you, for all vengeance is mine, justice is in my hand, and my eyes are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

My justice is perfect, an edge of glittering diamond. It would be better for him to have a millstone tied about his neck, and to be cast into the sea.

But that is him. You are you. Will you give me your burden?

You want to understand. To know “why.” If I am Almighty, why did I not protect you? “Where were you when he hurt me? Where were you when I asked you to save me and you didn’t? How can you say you love me when you don’t protect me?” I do hear you. I will answer those questions for you, one day. Listen now.

I will speak for you and your whole kind, ask questions harder than yours. Where was I at Wounded Knee? Where was I in the ovens of Auschwitz? Where was I on the red fields of Cambodia? Where was I in Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Where was I in Baghdad, in Kabul, in Aleppo? Where was I in the hundred million rapes of the world, the thousand million murders, the million slaveries, and injustices? Where am I in the blood, the cruelty, the screams, the sobs, the silence of corpses, and the tears of the ravaged?

Where am I? Where am I? Where am I?

How can I? How can I? How can I?

You will know in time.

Now is the season for trust, the day of the whirlwind. I am bringing restoration.

I am more than what you see. I am more than what you feel. I am more than explanations. I am more than expectations.

I am. I am. I am.

You are my daughter, my true heir. Stand. Believe that. Your heart knows the answer your mind rejects.

We shall crush darkness into light.

Together.

Exercise & Prayer

Have you ever asked God where He was in a situation in your life, one that caused you terrible pain? Is there a moment, a point in your life, where you feel like He was not there? Right now . . . ask Him into that place. Stay. Listen. Wait for Him to show up.

Father, bring healing to the broken places in my heart. Show me how to trust you. Bring people around me, a community who knows me and loves me, to guide me toward a deeper relationship with you. Show me how to love you, especially when there are things I can’t reconcile, things I don’t understand. Show me how you are safe and you are good and that you can bring restoration and hope, even when all hope feels lost. Show me where you are now, with me. Let me see your face. I am desperate for you, Father. Please come. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
