A Loving Father

DAY 2 OF 4

The Prodigal Son

The younger brother who asked for his inheritance and left his father's house.

This character refers to people who were once part of God's people but decided to go and experiment in other places. Maybe you are or were the prodigal son. You got tired of the same thing, of seeing the same rooms, the same people, the same workers in your Father's house. It may be that you and your brother didn't even get along.

You knew your Father so well that you were sure He wouldn’t stop you if you decided to leave, although you also knew that He wanted you to stay. Anyway, you left. You gave everything you had to the world, maybe to people who only used you, to that job that promised prosperity, but it was a hoax, or maybe to those practices that you thought would make you feel good but only made you a little less happy each time.

You entered a place where you don’t belong, and as time goes by, you realize that it is so. You tried everything, and nothing gave you true happiness. What you once thought would be the best, now left you much hungrier; hungry for purpose, for peace, for acceptance ...

It’s then when we resort to everything that seems to give us a way out ... Sometimes we hit rock bottom trying to be happy, but sometimes it’s necessary to be deep down, to understand that what you need comes from the highest. There you come to yourself, and you remember that, although in your father's house not everything is perfect, you always had Him so you lacked nothing.

When you return and are received with such mercy and love, you realize that the problem was never the house, but your relationship with the owner. You got so far away from your father that at a certain point you no longer cared about leaving him. But even when you were outside, in a different place, you still lacked the Father. That is why you thought of Him when you needed help.

We can serve in church, have friends in church, strictly attend church, but if we don't talk with God, we don't thank Him, we don't ask for instruction, eventually, we won't mind leaving. I’m sure that the prodigal son didn’t decide to leave from one day to the next, little by little he was moving away from the father, but he took as an excuse that he was tired of the same place or that he didn’t get along with his brother. Can you relate?

The father stayed in the same place, it was the son who left, which is why he knew how to find him. You know where God is, He’s there where you left him. Return to Him, who always waits for you and won’t reject you. If your relationship with God deteriorates, soon everything to do with Him will too.

About this Plan

A Loving Father

The parable of the prodigal son is very popular. They use it to refer to people who have strayed from God's path. However, it has three main characters: The father, who is God, and his two sons, the prodigal son and his older brother. Jesus mentioned both brothers in the story with a purpose, so that we could identify with one of them. Which son are you?
