 AM I A MISSIONARY?  

Most of us when we think on the idea of being a missionary automatically think of someone who has been called by God to leave their home and family to travel to a distant country.  And while this is true in some cases, it isn’t for all.        

In its most simplest of terms, a “missionary” is someone “being sent.” Each of us, as believers and followers of Jesus Christ, have been given the Great Commission as a mandate (Matthew 28:19).  We are all called to serve him, whether it is in a foreign land or its right in our own city.  We are couriers of the Gospel of reconciliation, no matter where we are, and have been entrusted with a remarkable message that the world needs to hear.     

In Romans 10:14-15, Paul writes “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?  And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'"    

Whatever we do, be it an entrepreneur, a corporate executive,  a stay-at-home parent or pastor, we need to understand that the Lord has strategically placed us, to love our neighbor. Wherever  we are, that is our mission field.  The gifts and passions that God has given to us are to be used for his glory and for his mission, right there.        

No matter where we find ourselves, let us see the opportunity and purpose in it.  Let us be passionate, obedient followers of Jesus Christ, looking for opportunities to minister, serve, and share the love of Christ—in our homes, in our communities, in our nations, and throughout the world.     

Do you see yourself as a missionary? Jesus does. 

Father, we pray today, that wherever you have us, whatever our vocation or daily jobs might be, help us to look and look outward for those who need to know You.  Holy Spirit, please sharpen our awareness to others around us.  Fine tune our discernment so that we may respond quickly, when you nudge our hearts.  Lord Jesus, help us to boldly proclaim Your goodness and Your glory no matter where we may go.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
