 <div class="label">12</div><div class="s1">Jerusalem&#8217;s Enemies to Be Destroyed</div><div class="p">1A prophecy: The word of the Lord concerning Israel.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p">The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares: 2&#8220;I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. 4On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,&#8221; declares the Lord. &#8220;I will keep a watchful eye over Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. 5Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, &#8216;The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.&#8217;</div><div class="p">6&#8220;On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume all the surrounding peoples right and left, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place.</div><div class="p">7&#8220;The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem&#8217;s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. 8On that day the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord going before them. 9On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.</div><div class="s1">Mourning for the One They Pierced</div><div class="p">10&#8220;And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit#12:10 Or the Spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on#12:10 Or to me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 11On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be as great as the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, 13the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, 14and all the rest of the clans and their wives.</div>

 <div class="label">15</div><div class="s1">The Vine and the Branches</div><div class="p">1 &#8220;I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes#15:2 The Greek for he prunes also means he cleans. so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.</div><div class="p">5 &#8220;I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8This is to my Father&#8217;s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.</div><div class="p">9 &#8220;As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father&#8217;s commands and remain in his love. 11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one&#8217;s life for one&#8217;s friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command. 15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master&#8217;s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit&#8212;fruit that will last&#8212;and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17This is my command: Love each other.</div><div class="s1">The World Hates the Disciples</div><div class="p">18 &#8220;If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20Remember what I told you: &#8216;A servant is not greater than his master.&#8217;#15:20 John 13:16 If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: &#8216;They hated me without reason.&#8217;#15:25 Psalms 35:19; 69:4</div><div class="s1">The Work of the Holy Spirit</div><div class="p">26 &#8220;When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father&#8212;the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father&#8212;he will testify about me. 27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.</div>
