JOY IS HERESample

JOY IS HERE

DAY 1 OF 5

Joy In Confusion

How is it possible that Mary, a virgin, would give birth to the Savior of the world? This idea goes beyond human understanding, and Mary herself must have had moments of confusion and disbelief. Scripture mentions clearly that she was feeling “greatly troubled.”

It’s no surprise this was the case. This hadn’t been in Mary’s plan, and now she’d have to navigate her new situation.

Maybe you can’t put yourself exactly in Mary’s sandals, but haven’t we all faced these feelings before?

“This isn’t what I thought it’d be.”

“I don’t have what it takes.”

“I’m nervous I’m going to mess this up.”

Even despite her initial feelings and anxious thoughts, Mary goes on to say, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

How was it possible for Mary to rejoice in this moment and push past the questions that were likely racing through her mind?

She had a different type of joy –– a joy that comes only from trusting God and His word.

It’s not a fleeting type of joy that comes from having a good day or getting something new; it’s a joy that comes from knowing Jesus in a personal way.

Godly joy doesn’t sugar coat your present circumstances; it doesn’t depend on current events. When you believe that God is in charge and that His plan for you is good, you can embrace whatever He sets before you.

God, help me to embrace the type of joy that comes from knowing You are in control of the things happening around me. I believe You will bring good from it. Help me to have the kind of joy today that isn’t dependent on my circumstances. Amen.
