The In-Between Place: A 7-Day Reading Plan With Kat ArmstrongSample
Even Messy Places in Our Lives Can Be Redeemed
When bad things happen to us or the people we love, the in-between places where the trauma, loss, and heartache occurred seem to bring in a handyman to hang an imaginary warning sign that cautions us to keep out. But Jesus is able to meet us in our messes. His presence in the hardest parts of our lives can be revolutionary, unexpected, and even disorienting. We often think that Jesus doesn’t belong in hard places. In truth, he might be the only person who can handle the brokenness of the surroundings and messes we’ve made of our lives.
Maybe that’s the message you need to hear right now. Jesus goes there, with you, for you. Jesus knocks the “Do Not Enter” sign off any door to find you. Nothing he finds inside will freak him out. Jesus meets us where we are and redeems every situation with his presence.
To the shock of many—and the rescue of all—nothing is off limits to Jesus. So, why not embrace his presence in your brokenness? Instead of trying to hide from him, why not throw out your hands? Why not motion for him to see all the mess for what it is and invite him to do what only he can—redeem?
Take him up on a time-tested truth—our most hope-filled conversations with God happen during the dark nights of our souls.
Prayer:
Father, help me through this messy part of my life. I welcome you into my brokenness because I want your presence to help me piece things back together. Let this season be a place for hope-filled conversation with you. Amen.
