Who Are You Going to Believe?Sample
A Divine Promise
In the story we read from Day 1, we can see that God gave a promise to the people of Israel: He would give them the land.
This mission was extremely important for Israel, so Moses decided to send the best men to spy out that land. But they returned after forty days and brought back an incorrect report. They put a human "but" in front of a divine promise. They looked at the threat of the people who inhabited the place, the giants, and the large, fortified cities.
When you listen to the human "but," you lose the ability to follow divine direction. Because that "but" takes your focus off the promise and points you to the doubts and difficulties that may arise.
In the Bible, the number 40 is related to trials. In this case, we can see how the Israelites failed to pass the test before them, because they listened to the wrong voices.
However, in the New Testament we can read that the forty days of trials that Jesus went through in the wilderness were overcome not by the best men of a tribe, but by the sacrifice of one man: Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Let us listen to the voices that align themselves with the One who says, "Come, get out of the boat", "All things are possible to him who believes", "Go and make disciples of all nations, I will be with you until the end of the world".
The forty days in which Jesus passed the test redeem all the other forty days in the Bible where human beings failed.
The voices we listen to determine the steps we take.
You may be in your forty days today, in the midst of a trial. But I want to encourage you to listen to the voice of the One who went through, succeeded and opened the way for you to move forward.
Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for having opened the way for us to move forward and overcome our trials. I ask you to strengthen my faith so that no human "but" can distract me from Your promises. In Jesus' name. Amen.
