Hunger: In Pursuit of AbbaSample

Hunger: In Pursuit of Abba

DAY 1 OF 3

Come Boldly

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to understand (and sympathise and have a shared feeling with) our weaknesses (and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation), but one who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning." Hebrews 4:15 AMPC

History is essential in helping us understand where we were in the past and where we are currently heading to in the present and in the future. It enables us to see the difference in our growth journey, how far we’ve come and how far we can go.

I remember the early stages of my Christian walk and how I struggled to comprehend the fact that I now had full access to God and His promises. It felt really weird and in some ways hard to believe considering my muddied history.

I could barely look past where I was coming from, and this threw a spanner in the wheel of how to study my Bible and even pray. It was a constant struggle but that’s why this passage in Hebrews (Heb 4:15) is so important, I often refer to it as a light bulb verse that reinforces the truth about Jesus’ relationship with me.

It’s a reminder that Jesus understands what you are going through and he’s got your back. The depth and complexity of your history is not one that confounds him, and he presents you with a new reality; one that allows you to come boldly before God just the way you are.

The plan of the devil is to dissuade you from reaching out to God, he reminds you of your history, your guilt and your inadequacies - all the reasons why you should not go to God, but Jesus is saying, “I know all about your past, I know about your guilt and shame. That’s why I came to the earth and why I gave my life on the cross to take them all away. I am your advocate. I speak on your behalf now.”

How do you come boldly?

  • First, you must recognise and acknowledge all that Christ has already done: you have full access to God.
  • Leverage the access you have through Christ: Don’t hold back.
  • When it feels like you have fallen short, still run to him because he is always eagerly waiting for you with arms open wide.

Prayer: Abba, I ask for the strength and courage to approach your throne and to acknowledge who I am in you.
