Refuge

Reflection:

When life gets tough, where do you run? In my early years as a Christian, whenever I was feeling hurt, disappointed, confused… whenever life was hard, my default setting was to flee from the Lord rather than run towards him.

Yet the Bible tells us that God is good, our safety, our security, our stronghold, our stability, our refuge.

During this last year, some of us have struggled with being ‘locked down’ in our homes. To stay safe from coronavirus, we have been ‘locked in’ while others – including those we dearly love – have been ‘locked out’.

It has been hard. But for many people living in poverty, home is not a refuge at all. Millions of people around the world do not know what it is like to feel safe. They have no where to run. Let us keep them in our prayers today, and thank God that, no matter what our circumstances, we can run to him to find refuge.

Prayer:

Father, thank you that in the day of trouble, you are our safe place. Thank you that whatever storms we are facing – whether they are storms around us or storms within us – you never leave us nor forsake us. Help us to run towards you, because you are our stronghold.
