Start Every Day With a Great Thought

DAY 2 OF 5

There Is Power in the Tongue

Reflection

The tongue is such a powerful element of the body. Though small, it can set the whole body on fire and wreak havoc on its bearer. It is also so powerful that it can make even the most unfriendly person lovable to others. This tiny element of the body can also work immeasurably well for us when we learn to master the power it wields and holds within its reins. Several people have done this and today enjoy the power in the tongue.

Our life often tends to move in the direction of our words. What we become in life finds its roots deep in the words that we have spoken in time past. Where we end tomorrow is traceable to the words we have spoken to someone or said to ourselves yesterday. All this stems from the alluring power we possess in our tongue. Life will begin to work for you when you start saying the things that you desire to see in your life. Often, we speak negative words of hate, anger, and abuse with our tongue to others. After awhile this becomes a thorn to us and brings a lot of negative outcomes to our lives.

Your life starts to take a positive outlook the day you learn to use the tongue correctly and positively. We attract the right people, opportunities, and outcomes into our lives when we speak positive words with our tongue. Can you remember the last time you said something nice about yourself or others? I bet you felt way better after you did that. This is how God wants us to live our lives. Even in the Bible in Proverbs 18:22 we are reminded that our tongue contains life and death. This leaves us with a decision to choose life by controlling the things we say with our tongue. Let this become your resolution today. Choose to use your tongue rightly and wisely. Speak only those things you want to see in your life and begin to enjoy the positive outcome of your words each day.

Prayer

God, I choose to use my tongue rightly. Help me to speak those words I desire to see in my life. I receive your help to speak well of myself and the people around me.

Next step

Find a quiet place and think about those negative things you have said about yourself or others in times past. Renounce them with your tongue and replace them with positive affirmations about yourself and others.

Scripture: Proverbs 16:24

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
