Have you ever wondered what God thinks about you? Not how he feels about you, but what he thinks. Even if you fully accept that God loves you, that he gave his one and only Son to die for you, you may still wonder what he genuinely thinks about you. What words might God use to describe you? What thoughts come to his mind at the mention of your name? Does he even think of you at all?

Imagine scooping a handful of sand and dropping it one grain at a time. Each grain represents one of God’s thoughts. Imagine counting the grains of sand like sheep to fall asleep. You drift into slumber and awaken hours later with your hand still full of sand. You haven’t begun to number God’s precious thoughts of you. 

Think about what you think about yourself. If your thoughts are less than precious, they don’t align with God’s. So take them captive! Instead, think about what God thinks about you. He not only has lots and lots of thoughts about you; his thoughts are also for you. 

Taste the sweetness of the tender word used in Psalm 139:17 to describe God’s thoughts about you: precious. Precious! Swallow the satisfaction of knowing his thoughts of you endear you to him. God thinks you’re more marvelous than mere words can describe. 

Stop assuming the worst and start proclaiming the best. Consider the truths you’ve declared so far. 

• My tongue has power, so what I say matters.
• I am worth dying for.
• God knows me.
• He is always with me.
• I am not invisible.
• I am wonderfully made.
• God’s countless thoughts are for me.

I encourage you to believe and speak truths like these. Your tongue has power. Use it for good.

Pray this aloud:

Dear God, cleanse the thoughts of my mind regarding myself. Help me take captive every thought that runs contrary to your thoughts. Help me remember the wonderful things you say about me and believe the precious thoughts you have for me. You are in my corner through thick and thin. The details of my past will never negate the fact that your love is unfailing, your mercies unending, and your precious thoughts are undeniably for me—not against me. Empower my tongue to speak truth about who I am in you. Amen.
