DAY 3 OF 10

"What You Don't Know Could Harm You"

What you don’t know could potentially harm you. Lot lived in Sodom during a time of war amongst kings. The war between the kings was intense and the bible states that “the victors took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply and provisions and left. And they also took captive Lot, Abram’s nephew and his possessions and left for he was living in Sodom.” (v.11-12)

In Genesis 13:10-11 we see that Lot saw the valley of the Jordan and chose to live there, but what he didn’t know caused him harm regarding the War of the Kings during that time. Although the land was well watered there was a battle going on. Lot entered a land with associations that later caused him to be taken captive and later rescued by Abram. Sometimes we go with appearance without thoroughly investigating and seeking God for directional guidance in every aspect of our lives.

While Lot was associated with a predicament he was also associated with Abram his uncle who was associated with God and 318 of his armed and trained men whom he led to rescue Lot from the hand of his captors. Even though one might not be in communication with those whom they previously associated with doesn’t mean that the connection has been severed. In the case of Lot and Abram before they separated there was no recorded strife or disagreement between them. It was just time to part ways, but it is reassuring to know that even in the midst of trouble Lot was rescued by Abram.

Jesus has done the same thing for us, despite the associations we were in or are currently in that are not conducive to his plan for our lives, Jesus still saves us and fights for us. Even though we sometimes don’t know the seriousness of some connections, God still comes through in protecting us when we try to follow our own devices. We also can learn something from the example of Abram in this scenario and Jesus, when we see those in whom we were associated with in need we should be willing to help, forgive and assist them.
