Devotions From John's GospelSample

While Jesus was busy teaching about serving in love, Peter was distracted by the question of Jesus going away. He could not wait for the time when he could follow Jesus(13:33). His impatience made him lose focus on his master’s teaching. He declared his loyalty to Jesus as a qualification to follow his master right then. What did Jesus want Peter to understand by his response?
Dear Sister, brother! In what area are you likely to become impatient in your Christian life? In fact, following Jesus is not all that easy. You cannot do it on your own strength. Do you know you need help from the Spirit to fulfill the promises you make to Jesus?
Prayer
Gracious Jesus, please forgive my impatience and distractions. Open my eyes to know my limitations in following you. Please strengthen me with your Spirit.
Jesus might say…..
My child, come to me and be patient in listening to me. I understand your eagerness and your weakness. I shall hold your hand and lead you on one step at a time.
