Praying the Priestly PrayerSample
What should we call God?
In every place incense will be offered to My name, and a pure offering. For My name will be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts. —MALACHI 1:11
How can we truly say we have intimacy with someone if we don’t know that person’s name? How can we declare we know G-D if we don’t comprehend how much He loves us and how calling on His name will forever change every moment of every day of the rest of our lives?
Many believers do not understand the one true G-D and His actual name well enough to explain them to others. If we can understand who we are praying to and how glorious He truly is— His character and what He can do because of His attributes—we won’t be afraid, struggling with so many issues.
Through Him, nothing is impossible! It’s important to know His name—because there is only one true G-D. This is made known in the Ten Commandments, which says:
You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself any graven idol, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water below the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the LORD your [G-D], am a jealous [G-D], visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of them who hate Me. —EXODUS 20:3–5
If we are in Yeshua—we believe in Him and have been born again—then by default, when we pray to the Father, we are praying to the one true G-D of Israel.
For you have not received the spirit of slavery again to fear. But you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” —ROMANS 8:15
Abba is the Hebrew term for Daddy. It’s OK to view yourself as a little child when you go before your heavenly Father.
And because you are sons, [G-D] has sent forth into our hearts the Spirit of His Son, crying, “Abba, Father!” —GALATIANS 4:6
Yeshua came to show forth exactly who the one true G-D is. Yeshua was a manifestation of the character of the Father for all to witness and comprehend!
Thus says [YHWH], the Maker of the earth, [YHWH] who formed it to establish it; [YHWH] is His name: Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know. —JEREMIAH 33:2–3
Proclamation Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I call upon Your sacred name, YeHoVaH, or YaHWeH. I thank You for revealing to me that You are the one true G-D. There is no other like You! I confess how awesome and holy You truly are. I realize that in the Tanakh (Old Covenant), only the high priest (after the order of Aaron) could come into Your presence in the holy of holies once a year, the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). Yet, through Your only begotten Son, Yeshua, my High Priest (after the everlasting order of Melchizedek) can I now come boldly into Your heavenly throne room and not only address You by Your sacred name, but I can call You Abba, Father. Help me by the power of Your Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to remember that I am Your spiritual son or daughter. Remind me that I can call upon Your name anytime and receive Your help in times of trouble or prosperity. May You give me Your direction and impart Your assignments. I ask for these things in the name of Yeshua.
