Discover JesusSample
Week 1 - Day 2:
Reading a 'Gospel’ | Read
There are actually four biographies that were written about Jesus by different people who knew him. Lots of the stories they tell overlap, but Mark wrote his first.
The word ‘Gospel’ in the original Greek language literally means ‘Good News’. We call these biographies ‘Gospels’ because they are literally the life-changing ‘good news’ about Jesus!
We won’t be looking at every single story in Mark’s biography - but some days you can read more of the surrounding verses to get the wider context. If you include all of those 'Read more...' sections you'll have read the whole book over the next four weeks. So feel free to read whatever works for you.
Questions | Reflect & Respond
Why would people call the biographies of Jesus the ‘gospels’ (i.e. good news)?
When have you received some good news that made your life better?
What parts of your world are you hoping to see improved?
A Conversation About Good News | Pray
When Mark wrote his biography he literally started with this phrase in the original language... “The beginning of the Good News of Jesus”. That’s a big claim. Read this story!!! Meet this man!!! It’ll change you!!! It’s an invitation to discover the good plans that God has for your life, as you discover Jesus.
Today, why don’t you talk to God about your hopes and dreams, the desires of your heart, even the reasons why you are checking out who Jesus is! Tell Him about the kind of ‘good news’ that you long for. Ask Him to help you get a clear picture of who Jesus is, and just why He really is such good news.
