Homeschool Moms Teach the Psalms (8-14)Sample
Psalm 8: His Majestic Name
When we think of the word majestic, it conjures up images of grand mountaintops or some other wonder of the world; something larger than life that brings us awe. Perhaps our view of God Himself has been too small. We may have brought Him down to our earthly turf instead of exalting Him in awe and wonder.
As homeschooling parents, we may dream of going to some majestic place and being refreshed and given that reset we so desperately desire. But I contend that we need only look at our majestic LORD and find refreshment in His presence (Acts 3:19-20). We, like Peter the Apostle, will be changed when we are “eyewitnesses of His majesty” (2 Peter 1:16).
Psalm 8 shows us why His Name is majestic in all the earth:
- He has set His glory above the heavens (verse 1).
- He raises strong children who will still the enemy (verse 2).
- He created the heavens and set the moon and stars in place (verse 3).
- He is mindful of and cares for us (verse 4).
- He crowns those who are His with glory and honor (verse 5).
- He has given us dominion over all of His creation (verse 6-8).
- He is our Lord, and His Name is majestic in all the earth (verse 9).
Our children are the strong children He is raising up to quiet the enemy. We must continue to raise strong, Godly children who understand their place in God’s Kingdom; those who understand His majesty. He raises up the weak to overcome the strong. And He uses us and our babes to show forth His glory—the glory of His majestic Name.
Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? (Exodus 15:11).
To Do with the Kids:
Read Psalm 8 together. Study majestic places around the world and talk about how God's majesty is higher as Creator of all things. Use the word majestic for vocabulary study. Young students learn to copy the word, elementary students write the word in a sentence and memorize its spelling, and older students can write the definition as well as write a paragraph about one of the majestic places they studied.
