Even IfSample

Written by Rachel B., age 15 from Algonquin, Illinois, USA
This past week at my youth group, we talked about the characteristics of God. My pastor asked us to look at a list of traits we had come up with together the week before and find the word that sticks out to us the most. Mine was gentle. I remembered the times in lockdown when the world felt so out of place, and I was just trying to stay on my feet while everything around me was crumbling. I remembered the first time I sensed God’s voice, tenderly in the night when my worries took over, telling me that everything’s alright. His voice gently brings us into His peace and restores, or calms, our hearts. He pulls us all up out of the waters when we are scared of what lies beneath them. We see Him working to turn ashes, and difficult circumstances, into beauty.
We can remember that even when the water is too deep, the embers are too bright to see the future, and change feels overwhelming, God never changes. He is here for you no matter what.

About this Plan

Life is full of change. Whether it be good like making the team, bad like parent’s divorce, or complicated like switching schools. Change can make us ask “Am I strong enough to face this?” or “Why do I have to go through this?” These devotionals will challenge you to rethink how you view change, and we’ll explore how God’s commitment to us doesn’t change, even if everything else does.
