Infinitum 30 Day Challenge - Week ThreeSample

Generosity
The second posture of Infinitum is generosity. The Gospel story is the extravagant outpouring of love. As the children of God we must live generously, not with a spirit of obligation, but one of love and humility.
When I was younger, I remember hearing “10% of my income” as $10. I thought to myself, well that seems rather doable! You can imagine my shock when I was met with the reality of the request. As a young 20 something year old, 10% of my income still isn’t much but feels like everything. This is the bare minimum of what we are asked to give. We are also called to be generous with our time, our homes, our whole selves.
As I reflect on this duty, I’m struck with what a good God we serve. We are asked to give because we first receive. James 1:17 says that all good things come from our Father in heaven. As children of God, we are also invited to receive all of what God delights in giving to us. Hope, deep love, rest, family reimagined, belonging, and purpose.
Matthew 6:26-34 even says that we shouldn’t worry about what we’ll eat because God will provide for our needs. So, to live with a posture of generosity means to give with joy and humility, as we receive with hope and love all that God gives us.
As you go about your week, try to posture yourself from closed to open and pray this prayer:
“I choose to hold my hands out open as a symbol of generosity. What I have is not mine. I am only a steward of all that you have given me. I want to mirror the way that you opened your hand to us and lavished your love and life upon us. I want to live an open-handed life in a closed fist culture.”
