Infinitum 30 Day Challenge - Week OneSample
Love God, Love Others
Jesus, when asked what the greatest commandment was, answered by quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” BUT Jesus doesn’t stop there. He is quick to include a second commandment, one that he understands is clearly tied to the first. That is, loving one's neighbour as yourself. It is so important to note that Jesus first commands us to love God with every fibre of our being. Jesus understands that love isn’t a mere feeling, he understands that it is also an action, a conscious decision, a daily practise. Often the world portrays love as a romantic feeling. Feelings are fickle but the kind of love that Jesus is talking about, true love towards the Lord, is a verb, it’s a sacrificial love that when brought about pours out into every part of our lives. By loving God with all of our heart, soul, and mind Jesus knows that love will overflow and we will then love our neighbours.
Through Jesus’ teaching, we see that love boils down to three things: surrender, generosity, and mission (others-focused living). As we walk through this 30 day challenge we’ll discuss these three postures and practices.
- How are you using love as a verb, and how as a noun?
- Who was one of the first people to love you sacrificially? How did they show that?
- When you thank God for his love, what are you currently experiencing and noticing?
Follow along with the audio posture prayer.
