DAY 2 OF 3

DIVORCE IS HATED BY THE LORD

“For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violence,” says the Lord of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.” (Malachi 2:16)

The divorce rate in today's time continues to increase, and the most stated reasons for a divorce are economic factors, domestic violence, and adultery. Indeed, sometimes people think that it is better to divorce because of reasons such as there is no more compatibility, or the fact that the couple doesn't love each other anymore. The decision to get a divorce is taken because the couple no longer has the ability to solve the existing problems and accept one another. However, divorce is hated by the Lord.

The Bible says that what God has joined together in a marriage cannot be separated by humans. Why does God hate divorce? One of God's attributes is love. The Bible says that love is patient, kind, and not proud. Love covers everything which means that we can cover mistakes when we have love. God loves family, husband and wife, and children. The Lord doesn't want the children to become victims of this divorce.

God gave warnings and admonitions to His people and the nations regarding their hearts that had betrayed the Lord. This nation left God and turned to foreign gods. This act disappointed God's heart. There are also many Christians who slowly give their attention to the pleasures of the world. People who are sedated by the pleasures of the world would slowly walk out of God's presence. When we are apart from the Lord, we will lose God’s protection, and the devil will take this opportunity to enter and steal our peace. A family can only stand strong if it has Jesus as its strong foundation. Jesus is a solid foundation. God's Word is a strong foundation where a family can stand firmly in the storms of life.

If we love and know the Lord, then we will hate what God hates. If God hates divorce, then we will also hate divorce. If God is willing to accept and forgive us, then let us also forgive and accept our partners with all their shortcomings and mistakes. Indeed, this is not an easy thing to do. It can't be done by our strength but we can do it by the Spirit of God. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit will we be able to live in God's unconditional love.

Lead your family to stand strong on the Word of God.
