Exploring the Deep Places With GodSample
Go Deeper into His Love
As we continue to consider the “deep place” God invites us to go to with Him, it is important to remember an important truth: as we say yes to His invitation, He gives us power; He gives us love; He gives us self-discipline. He gives us everything we need to follow Him and go deeper into His love (2 Timothy 1:7). He does not withhold anything that He thinks is good from us. And He does not give us fear.
Let’s spend a few minutes (ten minutes, if possible!) sitting with verse 10 in chapter 41 of Isaiah:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
So, go ahead and get ready. Get into a comfortable position. Put your feet on the ground. Rest your hands in your lap, if you can. Take some deep breaths. Roll your shoulders. Relax.
Read it once and listen carefully to the words. Think about the specific words here, how they are ordered. Notice the words, phrases, or specific verses the Holy Spirit might be highlighting for you as you read.
Now, read the verse a second time and engage your imagination. Put yourself into the scene. Be aware of your emotions as you listen for what God is speaking to you. Consider why He might have chosen certain words to speak to you today. How might they apply to your circumstances? Do they speak to something you’re going through right now?
Now, read Isaiah 41:10 for a third time, and turn Isaiah 41:10 into your own prayer:
So do not fear, for I am with you;
(Tell Jesus about any fear you are facing right now.)
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;
(Confess to Him your frustration, pessimism, resignation, despair.)
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10
(Tell Jesus how you trust that His Spirit is protecting you now, that He is powerful enough; and that He is good. Declare to Jesus that you will not make decisions in fear, but in His strength.)
Now, don’t do anything. Don’t talk. Don’t pray. Just sit in silence in the presence of Holy Spirit. Just embrace and enjoy the closeness of Jesus. Just relax and enjoy a few moments of doing nothing other than being with God. Feel His presence; feel His love for you.
