Catch Wind Skate Devotional

DAY 3 OF 5

Community comes in all shapes and sizes. It doesn't matter if you've been a skateboarder for ten months or ten years, the community based culture that skateboarding creates is like no other. I've traveled to different cities, states, and even countries with my skateboard. What remains true is that when I walk into an unfamiliar skatepark, it feels like home. When I meet a stranger with a skateboard in hand, they instantly feel like family.

My heart both desires the culture that skateboarding offers and often breaks for the individuals that are so lost in the culture. They don't recognize their need for a God that not only created skateboarding, but created them. When we read through scripture, we read of only a few moments when Jesus was so heart-broken that he was actually brought to tears. One of those moments is recorded in Luke 19.

After Jesus was welcomed to Jerusalem, we read that he walked to a place where he could get a good view of the entire city. As he approached and saw the city, he wept for it. He was so heart-broken for a community that was close to him that he wept.

God has placed you in community for a reason. Your heart should break for that community the same way that Jesus was brought to tears when viewing Jerusalem. The good news is that you have an opportunity to share the hope of Jesus in your respective community. Even if you don't feel qualified, remember you are still called!

Challenge: Take time today to pray over your community. Pray for your city, your local skatepark, your friends, or your family. Ask God to give you the same perspective that Jesus had for Jerusalem.
