Don't Let Success Be the Enemy of GoodnessSample

Day 5: Success can blind people to goodness.
Ordinary people can be more perceptive than successful people, as these verses illustrate. Naaman was so conscious of his success, and so full of self-importance, that he got offended when Elisha didn't seem to recognize his status. His servants, however, knew that Elisha wasn't being unreasonable.
I'm reminded of Jesus' words that we have to become like children to enter God's Kingdom. This doesn't mean to say we have to be fickle but humble. Naaman, as a highly successful man, was getting too big for his boots and needed knocking down a peg or two.
Thankfully, Naaman's servants opened his eyes to the reasonableness of Elisha's request. God does call us out of our comfort zones. He does reward our trust in Him often in difficult circumstances.
Naaman had to humble himself to be healed, but once he did, he was like a new creation. As we will find out tomorrow, he wasn't just physically healed but spiritually transformed.
'Lord, don't let us stay blind to Your goodness. Please open our spiritual eyes to see Your goodness for us, that we may enjoy eternity with You forevermore, amen.'
Can you see the eternal value of goodness?
About this Plan

Success, as defined by the world, is often about being rich and powerful. Success isn't synonymous with Biblical goodness/righteousness, which doesn't require people to be rich and powerful. But are success and goodness necessarily enemies? Let's learn from Syrian army general Naaman how these two characteristics relate.
