What Is God's View on Marriage?Sample
Marriage affects our social relationships
Marriage is primarily a covenant between husband and wife, but this covenant also changes their relationships with other people. When a child grows up, his parents are responsible for him and is to obey and respect them. But when the child has grown up and marries, his relationship with his parents changes. Of course, he is still to respect them. But his primary responsibility now is his wife, not his parents. He should first love, protect, and provide for her.
The bond of marriage is stronger than any other bond. Therefore, the Bible says that “a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife”.
In order for a marriage to function well within society, it is important that husband and wife make a public commitment before other people. That way, others can treat them as a married couple and they can find their place within the larger social structures.
