DON'T MISS THE MOMENT
As a parent, I know how thankful I feel when I watch my children accomplish big things, or how proud I feel when they say or do the right thing (those Facebook-worthy moments, right?). This feeling comes from a deep love inside of me for my children, and it’s such a special thing to think that God views us the exact same way—His pride and joy, His most treasured possessions—and He never takes His eyes off us. He doesn’t miss a moment.
Proverbs 23 starts by saying this: “Do not wear yourself out to get rich… Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone ...” I think this is a fitting and convicting look at what distracts us from the most important things in life. We live in a world that tells us to chase after more, do more, make more, and be more… and we can miss the most precious of moments when we chase after things that don’t matter.
Now, as a parent of older children, I find that I less often look back and say I wish I had worked more so we could have more things. Instead, I look back and wish for more memories playing games, talking around the table, exploring nature—unforgettable moments with the ones I love. God knows that we can get this backwards, and this is guidance to not make ourselves weary on the things that don’t matter.
Do you find yourself in the details so much that you miss the most beautiful moments and people right there beside you? Do you miss moments with God, prioritizing time of productivity over time with the One who created you and loves you most deeply?
Don’t miss the moment.
FAMILY CONNECTION
Proverbs 23:23 says to “Buy the truth, and do not sell it.” Play a game with your family called “Two Truths and a Lie.” Tell two things that are true and one that is not. Can your family figure out which one is a lie? As Christians, we are supposed to only accept truths, not lies. But how do we tell the difference? We can find truth in the Bible! God has written these things to help us more about who He really is and how important we are to Him!
