Finding Rest in the Good ShepherdSample
Deep, Dark Valleys
Have you ever heard the Christian life will be easy? You have probably discovered by now this is far from the truth. Throughout the scriptures, God shows us there are bound to be difficult times in our lives. But, even though we will face times of struggle and crisis, we can rest assured that the Good Shepherd is with us.
In our lives, storms will come, whether we build our lives on the firm foundation of the words of Jesus or the flimsy foundation of worldly wisdom. Jesus told His disciples they would have tribulation in the world, but they did not need to be afraid because He has overcome the world. (John 16:33).
We live in a fallen world, and we will have times where we experience the effects of sin in significant ways. We may experience times of anger, confusion, sorrow, or uncertainty, but we do not have to worry. Our Shepherd is with us. He leads us through the dark valleys and provides us comfort as we make the journey. We can not avoid these valleys in this broken world, but we can navigate them so much better when led by the Good Shepherd.
On the way to “green pastures,” we may pass through a dark valley. Unfortunately, we can not avoid it. However, the great news is we are guided through our darkness by the One who has navigated every difficulty life can bring.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
God's direction is always the best way we can follow through our highest peaks and lowest valleys. When He is our Shepherd, we can find comfort no matter what happens.
