Abiding in Christmas

DAY 1 OF 26

"Abiding in Christmas: Daily Advent Thoughts" by Bryan Craig

DAY ONE

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—” therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life. (Genesis 3:22-24 ESV)

Thank you for joining me in this season of Advent — the journey toward Christmas, the coming of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Today and for the next 25 days, I want to offer a brief scripture and devotional thought to help us keep our eyes on Jesus this Christmas. I start in Genesis today because I want to remind you that God's design from the beginning was to be with us in paradise. We chose to go our own way and paid a lifetime of consequences. We were cast out of God's presence, and we could not return ... on our own. God, in His grace and mercy, enacted a rescue plan. He sent Jesus to come after us, to give us a way back to Him.

APPLICATION: Where in your life are you trying to make your own way? Are you letting Jesus lead you in this life, and are you willing to let Him lead you home?
