OUR GOD IS OPPOSITE TO FEAR
God is Love. I can’t get past the first three words!
GOD IS LOVE
He doesn’t just have love, He IS love.
I used to have a cat growing up – Soxy was her name, black with white paws. She actually used to come when I called her and she would sleep with me on my bed at night. I loved her.
Over the years, I began to develop an allergy to animal hair. After patting Soxy, my eyes would get itchy and they’d swell up and I couldn’t stop sneezing. I had to stop being around her. My affection towards her had to lessen and over time, my love for her faded.
This is NOT the Love that God feels for us. His Love NEVER fades, it doesn’t diminish when we stuff up or aren’t as close to him anymore. He doesn’t just ‘have’ love. He IS Love!
His Love for you never fades, He never develops allergies towards you! He LOVES YOU!
I am so grateful He doesn’t treat me how I treated this pet of mine!
I’m so grateful He doesn’t treat me how sometimes I’ve treated Him. He LOVES me.
Now, let's look at what this complete and perfect love of our Father God does in our lives: v.18 “But love’s perfection drives the fear of punishment far from our hearts.” God’s perfect love drives out fear.
When we fear we are not good enough, not measuring up – God’s perfect love drives out fear. When we fear of not being able to do what God is asking of us – God’s perfect love drives out fear. His love for you is perfect. It doesn’t fade. It doesn’t disappear.
Reflection:
What area of your life (thoughts, attitudes, physical body, past) can you allow the perfect love of God to drive out fear?
Prayer:
Father God, fill me afresh with your perfect Love today. Your love that drives out fear. Your love that never fades, never disappears. Thank you that you are Love.

About this Plan
1 John is the first of three short letters written by the disciple John. 1 John is thought to have been written to the churches around Ephesus in around 90AD. In this short letter, we start to see and grasp the magnitude of God’s perfect character, and how much his love has radically been shown to us through Jesus. OUR GOD IS ____ ?
