The Blessing of You a 5-Day Devotional for Kids by Mark Batterson and Summer Batterson DaileySample
Day Four: The Feeling of Peace
“Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds. He will do this because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood.”
—Philippians 4:7, NIRV
God’s blessings look different every day,
Though maybe it doesn’t feel that way….
It’s the feeling of peace down deep in your heart
That you can reach for when things fall apart.
Devotion
Do God’s blessings mean we never feel sad? No! Do they mean nothing ever goes wrong—like you don’t get the color paintbrush you want or you lose a game or a friend moves away? No! God’s blessings mean that whatever happens in our lives, he is still with us. The Bible says God can give us a peace that is so special it’s even beyond our human understanding. It’s a peace that we have when we know that God’s love never changes, even when other things do.
Prayer
Dear God, your peace is so deep that I can’t even understand it! Help me to feel that peace in my body and my thoughts even when I am having a bad day. Amen.
Activity
Cut out pictures from a magazine or newspaper of peaceful things. Does a picture of a sunset or a sleeping kitty feel peaceful to you? Or maybe the sound of a train or sitting with your family at the dinner table? Tape or glue your peaceful pictures onto a piece of paper. Put the paper up where you can see it every day and remember that these peaceful things give us just a tiny glimpse of the amazing peace God has for us!
