DAY 17 OF 32

Season of Waiting

Arbor Diggs

READY

“Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” — Psalm 27:13–14

SET

Waiting is something many of us go through and something none of us can avoid. Maybe you are waiting for the season to start or for the starting position? Whatever you are waiting for, you may be in a season of waiting. If not, one is coming. Waiting is unavoidable and inevitable.

David, of all people, knew seasons of waiting.

David was alive before Jesus, and he waited a lot. As a shepherd, he waited on his flock of sheep each day. One day, God promised David he would be king. But David had to wait until that day. While waiting, he served King Saul. But King Saul soon became jealous of David and constantly tried to kill him. After fleeing for his life, David waited until the day he could come back home. While on the run and away from his home, he spent every day waiting for King Saul to stop attempting to harm him. David waited for the day his suffering would be over. He waited to go back home. He waited for God’s promise. He waited for the temple to be built. He spent his whole life waiting.

What did David do during his seasons of waiting? Read Psalm 27:13–14. David says he has confidence that God’s goodness will come. He waits patiently. He remains strong and courageous.

Even in the worst seasons of waiting, David remained patient, strong, and full of hope.

Seasons of waiting will always come. How we choose to wait will determine the attitude of those seasons. Will the seasons be full of worry, doubt, and complaints? Or will the seasons be filled with praise, trust, and courage?
