Causes of Conflict in the WorkplaceSample

Causes of Conflict in the Workplace – Part II
In this Bible reading plan, we’re discussing some of the causes of conflict in today’s workplace. The first one is anger. Another is greed.
Years ago, I helped a contractor establish a bonus plan for their branch locations. The bonus plan worked fine and everyone played by the rules except for one manager.
He became greedy and manipulated the numbers to increase his part of the company-wide bonus pool. This began causing conflict between him and the owner, but his greed negatively impacted the other managers as well. The trust he had acquired diminished significantly.
Proverbs 28:25 teaches, "The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper."
When you’re tempted by greed, remember to be content with the Lord’s provision. It will decrease your workplace conflicts and stress.
Questions for Reflection:
- Besides being greedy with bonuses, as illustrated above, in what other areas can we become tempted to be greedy in the workplace?
- What do you think is the underlying cause of greed in the workplace?
- Have you ever been greedy at work? What was the result?

About this Plan

Anger. Greed. Deceit. These are some causes of conflict in the workplace. It’s easy to spot these in others, but what about identifying them in ourselves? This Bible reading plan guides you through five causes of conflict. Ask God’s Holy Spirit to convict you if any of them ring true of you.
