Why Our Work Matters – Part V
In this Bible reading plan, we’re discussing some of the reasons God intended us to work. We will look at a final reason today: Providing Order.
We serve a God of order, not chaos. God took a dark formless world and put order to it. God provided order to the days and seasons, allowing us to better manage our time.
In Genesis 1 we read, "Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years.'"
Lawyers, accountants and many other professionals help put structure and order to our lives. Our work sometimes best serves God by putting order to a chaotic world.
Questions for Reflection:
- In what ways does your work bring order to others?
- How can you bring more order into your workday?
- On which businesses do you rely upon to bring order into your life? Has it ever occurred to you to thank God for those businesses?
Heavenly Father, you created man to work before the fall. You tell us in Genesis that everything you created was good. We confess we don’t always see work as a blessing. We see it as drudgery, or worse. Thank you for having an overarching purpose for our work. Help us to consider what may be your purpose for our individual work as well. May we learn to appreciate and see work as a gift from You. Amen.

About this Plan
Work is more than a means to an end. It’s more than a way to pay our home mortgage or electric bill. Work is something that God created us for before the fall. In this Bible reading plan, we will look at some of the reasons why God intends for us to work.
