Fearlessly Making Disciples Sample

Fearlessly Making Disciples

DAY 2 OF 7

Overcoming Insecurity

When Eliza’s friend Anna decided to become a Christian, Eliza was thrilled. She connected Anna with Zack, a seminary student more qualified to lead others to Christ and teach new believers.

Sadly, Eliza failed to see her ability to be used by God.

Sharing a gospel presentation can be intimidating enough, let alone adding follow-up discipleship. If the other person decides not to follow Jesus, we might feel discouraged--as if we’ve not explained the gospel correctly.

We are simply required to share our faith in the power of the Holy Spirit and leave the results up to God. His timing is perfect.

Sometimes it takes many gospel presentations (communicated by several different Christians over time) before the truth takes hold in someone’s heart.

Looking at the Great Commission

Before Jesus left us, he gave us easy instructions on discipling others. His final words in Matthew’s Gospel have become known as the Great Commission.

What is a disciple? A disciple is a follower who commits to the teachings and instructions of a master.

Let’s look at some of the actual words Jesus used when telling us to make disciples for Him. Unpacking one particular phrase can help us fearlessly teach others how to mature in their faith.

Jesus says to “Therefore go, and make disciples of all nations.” By telling us to “disciple,” Jesus’s intentions were for us to go beyond merely leading people to accept Christ.

Discipling means we also teach new believers how to follow Christ. Jesus even left His Holy Spirit to embolden us to do this mighty work of raising His children.

Additionally, Jesus bids us go everywhere in the world (“all nations”) to make disciples. People won’t come to us. We must be intentional to go and go everywhere.

What a comfort to know He will always provide a means for us to fulfill the work He asks of us. We don’t have to be timid or afraid. He has already equipped us. Who will you fearlessly go to today?

For Reflection: Being a spiritual influencer to others is a powerful role, but we have a powerful God. Ask Him to reveal your next steps for courageously sharing Jesus with those who don’t know Him and making disciples of new believers.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

Fearlessly Making Disciples

Helping launch and advance others on their spiritual journey can be intimidating. Feelings of inadequacy often paralyze us. It’s easier to defer the job to pastors or seminary students. After all, we’re not professionally trained to help others grow in their faith, right? What if we mess up? For the next seven days, you’ll find encouragement to confidently make disciples by simply studying what God’s Word says on the topic.
