It’s A Choice
Martha was someone so caught up with getting her house in order for Jesus’ arrival, she seemed unable to make time for Jesus when He arrived. It can be tempting to marvel or sneer at Martha. How is it possible to keep doing the dishes, cooking, or scrubbing the shower when the Son of God shows up for a chat? Put down the duster, Martha. Join your sister.
Think about your own life, though. Often, we can become totally consumed by all the things we’re doing, or think we need to do. Even things that prepare us for Jesus. So busy and distracted, that in fact, actually dedicating time and attention to being with Jesus can feel impossible. Take note of Jesus’ kind rebuke to Martha. ‘Mary has chosen what is better,’ He gently reveals the best choice anyone can make (no matter what we have going on). Oh, and then remember how Martha later declared: ‘I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God’ (John 11:27).
Martha DID choose what is better. Don’t forget that.

About this Plan
With all the noise, it can be easy not to be fully present in the moments of our life. These devotionals are designed to develop the practice of being present in your day-to-day life and with God. Inviting Him to be present with you in all seasons, circumstances, and situations. His presence can make an insignificant moment become full of purpose and opportunity.
